A Message for the Commissioner

Dear Commissioner:

Initially, I planned to run a conservative mile because I assumed my trainer would encourage me to avoid injury at all costs.   However, she reminded me that Mr. Denver is a celebration of the competitive spirit, a testing ground to discover what you are made of, and above all, an opportunity to stick it to Hayes Trotter for forgetting to put me on the original invitation.  She told me to leave it all on the track.

Agism?

  • 3/04/2009 Mile Time: 7:28 (Fifteen Witnesses.)
  • 5/29/2009 Mile Time: 7:43 (I ran for twenty minutes prior to timing my mile.  I had a fifteen minute hiatus between my twenty minute run and my mile time.  The temperature was eighty degrees and the wind was blowing fifteen mph.)

Dearest Mr. D Participants,

You should all defeat me in this competition.  I am the standard by which you will judge your fitness level.  As the oldest competitor at nearly 39 years of age, I should be destined for failure, but will I fail?

Graciously, the commish has allowed me to run the mile twice so that I can demonstrate my flirtation with failure.  Remember, I might finish last, but I will be there under your athletic souls and peering over your shoulder.  As Sir Winston Churchill so eloquently stated," This is not the end nor the beginning of the end; it is the end of the beginning."  Please don't judge the elderly.

Sincerely,

Gheetz

to bruecker's whiny-ass ankle

4:25 pace for 100m, 6:49 finish.

Who does this look like?

7:22 with an assist from Mr. Trotter

so i had mr. trotter running beside me with a boom box blaring "Chariots of fire" as my inspiration to break the 8 1/2 min mile.
i just saw jeff br"okenankle"rs video and am troubled to see that philip rivers mouth has been transplanted on his head.  i would say if he had half the heart of rivers, who played with a severe knee injury, he would pony up for a mile run vs rocking 40 pushups.  i am impressed with the dude's pecs though.  they should come in handy for the field goal kicking.
ps.  the photo posted was me 25 pounds and approx 3 years ago.
barring any career ending injuries, i will be ready to roll in june.
